ST.LUCIA is without question the jewell of the Caribbean. Whether you're after romance, rejuvenation or adventure. A genuine, natural landscape of gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, miles of unspoiled rainforest, the majestic Piton Mountains, natural waterfalls, breath-taking views, friendly locals and an authentic culture, St.lucia has it all to impress even the most travelled individuals.
The south coast of St.Lucia offers world class kiting, from wave riding to flat water ripping, in addition. The steady east or northeasterly trade winds come in cross-shore from the left, historically blowing from late November until April, but regularly now running to July. During the main season you can expect frequent 20 - 25 knot winds. We'd suggest bringing either your eight and ten, or nine and twelve metre kites.
Air temperatures are just perfect: 27 - 33°C / 80 - 90°F all year, cooling off a little at night, especially December / January when you might want some long jeans rather than shorts. Water temperatures vary only very slightly, from roughly 25°C / 77°F at Christmas, to 27°C / 80°F in August. Obviously no wetsuit required; just a rash vest to keep the sun off.
Urban Recovery have teamed up with our friends at the Reef, Kite and Surf Centre who are located in the south of the island at Anse Sables (meaning 'Sandy Beach'). This is a crescent-shaped bay, enclosed by reef. The beach curves gently into the wind on the downwind end, so you will always end up back on the beach should you not be able to make it back to your start point. Bump and jump conditions here are good for all levels. Occasionally there's a little shore-break, but no heavy duty waves.
Our chosen accommodation is the historic Balenbouche Estate which is set within a beautiful 70 acre heritage site and organic farm with several beaches, historic plantation house and gardens, sugar mill, lily ponds and nature trails. It's located not far from the kite centre between Laborie and Choiseul, just 20 minutes from the International airport and 30 minutes from the town of Soufriere.
The privacy, natural beauty and tranquility of Balenbouche is ideally suited for yoga, meditation and other holistic therapies designed to relax, recharge and renew.
Delicious, good wholesome food is a large part of your health and well being and your overall experience at Balenbouche. The estate offer breakfast every day and dinners 3-5 times a week. All meals are freshly prepared using largely local and organic ingredients, some grown on the estate. They can tailor the menu to your special needs if you let us know in advance.
